One of the regular publications of the Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics is the Gender Statistics on Labor and Employment (GSLE).  Primarily, the GSLE brings together related sex-disaggregated indicators and data available from various government agencies.  It also aims to promote the use of gender data in the formulation of plans and programs and in the monitoring of projects designed to promote gender equality in the country.

It consists of 13 chapters namely:  Chapter 1 – Total Population; Chapter 2 – Economically Active Population; Chapter 3 – Employment (Household-based); Chapter 4 – Underemployment; Chapter 5 – Unemployment; Chapter 6 – Employment (Establishment-based); Chapter 7 – Hours of Work; Chapter 8 – Compensation, Wages and Earnings; Chapter 9 – Manpower Development; Chapter 10 – Overseas Workers; Chapter 11 – Union Membership; Chapter 12 – Working Children; and Chapter 13 – Youth Employment.

The data compiled were taken from the Census of Population, Labor Force Survey (LFS), Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CSPBI), Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (SPBI) and Survey of Overseas Filipinos of the National Statistics Office (NSO); and Agricultural Labor Survey of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS).  Other data were sourced from the administrative statistics generated by Technical Education and Skills Authority (TESDA), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and Commission of Higher Education (CHED).  Data on union membership were culled from the results of the BLES Integrated Survey conducted in 2004 and 2006.

Labor force data are presented in time-series as early as 1998 while data on other indicators are available starting 2002.  For 2008, the GSLE is divided into two (2) parts.  Part 1 contains time series data based on 1995 Census population projections while Part 2 contains data based on 2000 Census population projections.

Where explanation about the data is needed, it is included in the footnote accordingly.  Explanatory Notes are also appended to provide our users better understanding of the data contained in this publication.

This publication is also disseminated in CD form.

For this, we would like to thank our statistical partners for their continuous support in this undertaking.
